Hi Guys,

I'll be requesting my citizenship this year, I have 2 kids under 18, their GC were issued 3 months before mine, can anyone advise me on how to proceed with this? Do they go through the same process? What kind of paper work should I do to get their citizenship? N-600? please advise.

Regards to all.

Your kids will automatically acquire US citizenship the day you take your oath (if the kids remain under 18). After that you can simply apply for their US passports. Their passports can be applied at the same time as yours and you will need your certificate of naturalization, their birth certificates showing you as their parent and their green cards.

N-600 is an application to get a certificate of citizenship for your kids which is an alternate document to prove their citizenship. If you get a US passport for them you don't need to get the certificate of citizenship.

I don't believe nkm is correct on the statement that "your kids will be US citizen automatically" when you have your Oath. I would look into that more if I were you by contacting NSCS. My understanding is you should file for n-600 now before they turn 18 which will cost more for them then to apply for n-400. but all in all I would call nscs to be sure

nkm is right. Kids under 18, residing with the parent in the US and reported on parent's N-400, become US citizen automatically with parent's naturalization and can apply for passport based on naturalization certificate of the parent. N-600 is not necessary; it's a safe-guard measure to show proof of US citizenship if the US passport is lost.

You don't need to call anybody. NKM is absolutely right.
