Hi guys,

My kid is born here. We plan to visit India next month. Does she need an Indian visitors visa?

Thanks

If you can get PIO then she doen't need visa. Go to Indian Embassy site to explorer more on this. If you do not want PIO then she has to get visa.

Unless ofcourse you opt for Indian citizenship.

Child born in US, is US citizen and he/she can decide at the age of 18 to choose to decline citizenship if desired. I don't think parent can voluntarliy choose that their US born kid has given up US citizenship and opted for another country's citizenship.......

Its a non-issue (as most parents want US citizenship for their child), but for discussion sake .. what Guru's think about this?? Can parent voluntarly give up US citizenship of their child??? Is it possible legally????

AW , start a poll on this if you want scientific results..... :D :D

you are correct....

I have a distant cousin who was born in the US, his father was a diplomat and they applied for Indian citizenship for the child. Two years after he was born they went to Africa for a few years and then to India. When he was 19, he took his birth certificate to US Consulate in India and got his US Passport and came to USA to study. No Oath ceremony, nothing.

He never stopped being US Citizen even though he had Indian Passport.

Parents can choose to give up US citizenship of the child as far as foriegn governments are concerned, but as far as US Govt. is concerned it does not make any difference what the parents choose. The kid will be a US citizen unless he/she chooses to give it up after 18.
