K1 Visa Application Process

Hello I wish to marry an Indian citizen currently residing in Russia on a student visa. I have done brief research on the K1 visa process. I have read that we must provide proof that we have met within the past 2 yrs. There is an exception if a hardship would be endured to actually meet a fiance or meeting before marriage is against one's culture, religion, etc. It is within our religion to practice arrange marriages. We, as well as his family, have exchanged emails, phone calls, and online chat since May 2007. We have decided to proceed. I have no problem paying the application fees, etc. I do however, have a problem with paying for my flight, visa, and room/board to prove that we have met before we can file the K1 app. Even then who knows if the fiance visa will be approved. In addition, we will then have to pay for his flight to come to the USA. This is all possible but it will take few months to arrange for this money. What are the odds of obtaining a visa for someone that I have not met in person? Should I obtain an attorney for this?

Its very helpful to provide proof that you both have met...Otherwise, you'll have to describe in detail why you need the exception

If you are having monetary problems even to pay for flight, then I would suggest you call this off since you have to prove(tax returns, bank statements) and provide support to your fiancee..

You can do all the paperwork on your own but if you need exceptions and stuff, I would suggest going thro' an attorney...
