K-1 to GC - New Security Check

My fiance entered the US on K-1 last June. We got married in June and applied for AOS in Sept. She got her finger prints taken in Feb. She had her AOS interview yesterday in Chicago. Her AOS was approved, however, she did not get her passport stamped. The reason was INS has introduced a new security check for all K visa applicants, besides the finger print check. This security check had not been completed. Once complete she will get an approval letter from the INS which will eventually lead to the I-551 stamp.

Anyone have a similar experience? What are the typical lead times for this security check?

I came on a K1 visa also. Entered the US in February 2002, interview was 19th November and we were approved but as of today still pending checks. However, some people get approved in a week. Seems your guess is as good as any as I have been waiting hmm, 5-6 months now :(
