I'm hoping to get some feedback on best-case and worst-case timelines for K-1 Fiance visa. I am a US citizen and my fiancee is an Indian citizen. I would be filing the petition for her visa in Virginia, and she would be applying for the visa in Delhi.
I read one account of someone getting the petition turned around in about a month. That was for a fiancee in Nigeria and the service center was Vermont. Many of my fiancee's friends have told her about K1 and K3 visa applications in Delhi taking 6 months to a year. This is the source of a lot of tension but the general impression I get is that the fiancee (K1) visa may not take as long as the K3 visa. Someone please help me on this.
Basically here is the scenario. I have been living in India for the past 2 years. I have been separated for some years but not yet divorced. I will have to return to the US and it may take another 6 months for the divorce to be granted (there were some problems with the original filing). Once the divorce has been granted I am free to file the petition for a fiancee visa (I believe that is the 129F). Once that has been granted my fiancee can apply for a K-1 visa at the New Delhi consulate (she lives and works in Gurgaon).
So what experience do people have of worst-case scenarios where all the paperwork was present and everything else was in order (no DUI complications, illegal entry or anything else)? Assuming once I have gotten my divorce legally granted in the US, what might be reasonable and worst case timelines for
1. Filing the petition for the fiancee visa until it is granted?
2. Her beginning the process of K1 visa application until it is granted?
Any and all information would be helpful. She has a lot of apprehension about this and feels the US consulate personnel are biased against Indian women based on bad experiences she had there before trying to get a tourist visa for the US. I think it is likely that many of her friends who have had delays may not have had all paperwork and required items in order. But then again, I don't know - I have also heard that it can take weeks or even months to get an appointment at the Delhi consulate.
Thanks!
