This is just for general info.
My wife returned from India on 19th Sep on a valid H4. She did not have AP and H4 expires on Oct 31st. The only questions asked by INS were :
1) What does your husband do ?
2) Do you know your H4 is expiring shortly. She said "yes" and said that she plans to renew it. My 6 years end in March 2005.
And she was given the OK.
The above may be inforamtion which people do not already know but the reason I mention it here is the period of validity remaining on the H1/H4 is not an issue as long as it is not expired.
