Just curious, why INS cannot count the 485 waiting time toward citizenship?

i just wonder why there is no law for that.

Because the huge delay for AOS in recent years, a lot of 2001 filers wait 2-3 years to get 485 approved, while others got approvel in 3-6 months in 2002. are those family-based 485 (for example citizen's spouse) waiting time counted for citizenship?

very good point !! it realy makes sense

i saw some other guy rose this point before, just forgot the details. is there any proposal on it? any inputs? guys

We should lobby for a petition, those who got GC and those who are still waiting for GC; that all time spent waiting in AOS should be counted towards the wait for citizenship. We are ready to accept 6 months of time as a normal wait period but beyond that, all time should be counted as if we had GC and are in a process of getting citizenship.

If we do not do this, at the current rate, candidates will spend 12 years after filing for GC to get their citizenship.

Currently, TSC is taking 4 years to adjust the cases after filing 485. If we drive this point, we will be getting GC and then could apply for citizenship shortly there after.

Let us unite on this.

A group of folks in this forum lead by Edison is forming a portal “immigrationportal.org” that will start on these activities soon and all your help will be appreciated. Currently the website is in the development phase. Watch for details in this forum in the next few weeks.

Very important point

We need to do something on this point unitedly. May be this is the correct time to start, because it is election year.

this has been buggin' me too

I completely agree. With this wait (2-3 years w/o DOL wait) plus the 5 years requirement most of us have to wait 7-8 or more years for citizenship. Actually if I add DOL wait than I end up with 10 years or more for most of us.

I myself has looked into jobs (like law enforcement) that require citizenship and won't have a shot at them because I will be a f_ing senior citizen by the time I will get my passport. Kind of sucks.

Especially if you compare it to those who got married and only have to wait may be 3-4 years. I don't see how and why they get their citizenship much faster than we (employment applicants) do.

I am 100% for a movement in this field.

you should though, GC does not give you the same protection, real freedom is the passport... as long as you only have a GC you should not forget that at one point you will be evaluated again!!! my 0.02
