June 2003-Just Won DV2004

I¡¦ve just received the letters from KCC and become a winner of DV2004. My case number is: 2004AS00032XXX. My country is Taiwan. I am going to go with the CP (Counselor Processing) in AIT (American Institute in Taiwan) I have just filled up all the required forms (DS122, DS230 I & II) and mailed them along with my two pictures back to KCC.

If you are the person who has won previous DV and obtained your green card through CP, I would really appreciate if you can share me your experience. I looked the inputs from other people in this forum. Some people were mentioning the Case Number would definitely affect the time of interview. However, my attorney at law told me it¡¦s not working that way. So, can anyone who successfully gone thru the whole thing can share us your case number (last 3 digits you can use XXX), when you got informed for you VISA interview, and where you were processing your case. Thank you very much for your input.

Congradulations. However, your case number is very high. I don't think your attorney knows what he is talking about. However, I am not a lawyer. You may want to contact some other attoney who has actually done DV.
Good Luck.

For pwdg

Thank your for you kindly reply. Actually, I am in the US. The BCIS local office that I can file I485 is in Newark, NJ.
So, my rank/case number is high. Do you suggest me to switch to AOS instead of CP? Or, it's true as what I heard about that if you got high number then you'd better go with CP?

you will have a higher chance with CP than AOS. If I were you, I would not do AOS. Hope this helps

A small correction. The above numbers are for July 2003 and not for June 2003. Also you can find out the history of cutoff numers too at http://www.travel.state.gov/ivstats.html

Strange Number

Hi, I still have two questions:

My rank/case number is 2004AS00032XXX. Based on the past Visa Bulletin, it seems that the VISA will NOT be abailable for me until Sept. 2004 when it becomes current. Even then, maybe the VISA numbers will have been run out already. So a 32XXX does not make any sense; even cut it into half, 16XXX is still a high number. So, my react would be: Huh? Someone is fooling with me? Anyhow, I still hope if someone can answer me the following questions:

1. Why is that I would have more chance to get the VISA if I go with CP especially when I have a high rank number?

2. What does "current" mean anyway? I mean, how can I make sure if the VISA still be available when I fly back for interview during September? I am afraid of one situation happening during the inverview: ( the officer at AIT look my face and say, ha, the last VISA number just gave out to the guy walking out that room...sorry and you can't go back to USA on your non-immigrant VISA too....)

input for you

congratulations ....

I'm a winner for DV2003, and I know how confused you are right now to choose between CP and AOS, 'cos I've been there.
Let me list some comparison for both process.....
1. CP is faster and clearer than AOS ,because CP is handled by DOS directly, and AOS is handled by BCIS who is sometimes still confused how to handle DV case
2. If you go back to your country, and got rejected, it will jeopardize you ....(what kind of visa do you have right now?)

I'm agree with pwdg that case number will really affect your chance to get GC....... because interview will be held based on that number, the smaller your number are, the bigger your chance to get interview. But don't worry.........I know 3 persons with a big case number, and still get their GC (their interview held on August and Sept). It may be many of people selected from DV don't continuou their process.

In addition, DV is a rare case, I've talked to 2 immigration lawyers before, but none of them is familiar with DV (they say so, but in fact they don't really know). So I decide to handle it by myself.

I hope this information will help you

Good luck

I have a H1-B

Thank you for your kindly reply.

I am on a H1-B1 status and it's going to expire by March 2005.

I have a steady job and own a house and 2 cars here. (So, I think I can prove that I am capable to live here, USA.)

I earned a Master's Degree in Engineering from Pennsylvania.

I got a good record from police certificate at my home country.

I am healthy.

Based on my qualifications, if everything goes well, I should easily pass the interview via CP, right?

The other question is: if I unfortunately still get rejected during CP interview, can I still apply for a H1-B VISA to come back??

About your H1-B. Are you on H1-B status or VISA? If you are on VISA and it is stamped on your passport, you will not have any problem in coming back.
If you are on H1-B status, the case may be little tricky. One way to handle that is go back to your home country for a vacation with your family and get your visa stamped on your passport and your family's passport. (earlier you could do this by going to toronto, but not any more) This can be easily done since you have a permanent job in USA. When you go for visa interview for H1-B, don't mention that you won the lottery. If you mention, they can not legally issue you a visa. Also you are not violating any rule or lying in your visa application, since you have not submit any application for GC yet. You can submit your applications only after October 01st 2003.
Once you have your visa sealed on your passport, when you go for your CP interview and if you get rejected, then you can still come back. In one of your earlier posts you mention that your lawyer told you differntly. I think your lawyer does not know what he is talking or you interpreted it wrong. go to www.visalaws.com and find out more about these DV cases.
Good luck. I hope this info will help you.

TWCHEN,

I have similar background and wait for the results of DV2004. Could you please tell me when did you received the letter?

Thanks.

To eja

eja, I got it in mail on Friday, May 16th, 2003

I think if wait until the end June and have not received it, then you won't get it for this term (DV2004)

However, even I got it, but with such a high rank number, I do NOT feel any joy from it. In fact, it just disturb my recent living and make me so upset. I'd rather not getting it if it's such a high rank number.

CURRENT MEANS WHAT?

I still don't get it.

According to the 2002 Bulletin, the DV Chargeability for the Asia area were:

7800--April 2002
9000--May 2002
9500--June 2002
9850--July 2002
16700--August 2002
CURRENT-Sept 2002

So, say, if my rank number was 32000, it means hopeless!!

However, I just don't get it. How do they inform all the appliants for the interview when it becomes current?? Can anyone please tell me what will happen when the end has come and how to make sure if one can still get a chance to get the GC if with extreme high rank number??

Hi Twchen,

Current number means that your case number has a chance to get an interview. If you adjust your status in US, you can adjust your status after your visa become current.

However you really can not compare DV2004 with other year, because it is possible that DV2004 has much higher number for Asia than that of DV2002. To prove it, you can review DV2003 cut off number, and cut off no for asia is AS 18000 (now is June), so it is more than icutoff no for AS of DV2002 in the end of fiscal year.

One more thing (I don't know whether it is correct or not), there are some people say that all of the case number become current in Sept.

Finally, don't worry be happy
;) :D :) :p

Thank you airin, you are a good person to cheer me up.

When you say " has a chance to get an interview"...I am really not sure how that work. As I remember, the KCC said that they inform the applicants 4 to 6 weeks prior to the interview. Say, if I wait until Auguest 29th and still not heard any thing. Then, how do I get the "chance" to have that interview??

Your interview date depends on many factors. Your fingerprinting, howmany others are ahead you and so and so. Go back to some thread in this catagory for the last one year. I saw someone has submitted I-485 in August and in September he got the GC. It will be a very good idea for you to process your GC through employment base catagory as well. Also, call KCC and speak to someone over there. Some times they are very helpful.
