John Kerry hasn't even listed Immigration reforms as an issue. We need to make sure we get heard, please go to www.johnkerry.com and send him a mail. We are sufferring at the hands of DHS and he should be aware of it. Here's what I wrote in my email.

Dear Mr. Kerry:

What's your policy to reduce the immigration backlog? I am one among thousand of Indian computer professionals who are suffering from delays at the hands of DHS. We are loyal, educated , legal workers making serious contribution to the American economy living thousands of miles away from our home trying to make a better life and make a difference to the American economy. But still the Permanent residency delays are killing us. I have filed my adjustment of status application two years back and I still see no signs of any progress, I had to wait 2 years for my labor certification prior to that. On top of that we have to renew our Employment authorizations (EAD) cards every year and we have to file 6 months in advance to get the cards in time so we can continue to work. Immigration reforms are a must and must be addressed in your speeches. Immigrants like me are making serious contribution to the American economy. We need your help in us be able to live the American dream!!

Thanks for lending your ear.

Regards,
abc

Thanks

Thanks for writting this e-mail. I will send a similiar e-mail. However, I don't think any Govt. official is concern about this much.

This email sounds like we are begging and that they are the God. I am at a point where I am starting to loose respect for them so I will never send an email begging them.
Sorry!
However, I will be very willing to send an angry email. Someone should put them in their place so that they would know that without immigrants this country and they have nothing to it.

It 's not a begging mail, it's a polite mail, that's all. Feel free to write any mail you want, but write. Boond boond se sagar banta hai. Every effort makes a difference.

John Kerry

Why not hold your email until he wins the Nov election !

Did your psychic say he's gonna win ? :p

joyd,
Sorry to go off-beat from the path of immigration..
U seem to be making a case for only "computer professionals". Are the rest not in need of help? I do get irked by this attitude of Indians who think "computer" is the path leading to eternal salvation. Please broaden the thought process.
BTW, b4 everybody starts howling, I am also in the "computer engineering" field. But I do not believe that computer professionals deserve any special status as compared to an accountant, etc. Infact if we start demanding action just because we are computer professionals, it can be to our detriment. I can cite cases of American citizens with 10-15 yrs of experience who have families and are driving cabs to make ends meet.
A lot of immigrant computer professionals have jobs because we seem to be willing to work for lower pay and work like sweat shop workers....I am not saying we want to work that way, but in a lot of cases forced to work that way because of this immigration threat...
Anyways, sorry to ramble on...

You are right, I just wrote whatever I felt, but feel free to write whatever you want, but at least write. We need him to hear us. Right now we don't exist for him anywhere.

joyd,
I am sorry I didn't mean to offend you, and I do think that the email is polite, and that is how I would write to someone myself, I just don't think these people deserve being treated so politely and with so much respect.

Realize the FACT !

Realize the FACT !

There is nothing wrong in writing email like this and send to many people explaining immigrants situation.

Good to know that everyone got suggestions to do some thing good for the immigration community.

But at the same time,

***********realize the FACT********************************

Congressmen or Senators may listen your individual cases and may check your case status through different channel but it's not going to help the entire skilled professional category permanent residency ! You could pay 10K or 100K to hire a legal consultant to work on our issues, in fact most of us already paid nearly $3500 to Attorney to process our GC ...You get very little help in terms of reducing backlog. So money is not the main criteria to resolve any issue, but understanding the fact and coming up with the right strategy is more important.

Ok... Here is the fact,

First of all no Senators or Congressmen listen "skilled professional - Permanent Residency" backlog issue, some may listen but they don't react. It's a human tendency that people never listen or act if you're not providing any value to them directly.

You may think that you're working very hard for US companies , struggling for GC and causing more anxiety, which is bad for you and also to your employer.
Your employer (in particular Fortune 500 companies) have every rights to ask "US Senators / Congressmen " or any other politcal parties to support their employee since they have paid millions of dollars (as Tax, even election campaign funds). So why don't we come up with a plan to explain all our immigration issues to your employer. Most of our immediate Manager understand our issue, but they can't provide any direct help to resolve.

If we start talking about these kind of issues again and again, employer may not listen further and threaten your position. So the only way is to leave the employer, and join some small consulting firm. If every skilled non-immigrant does the same, then the employer (Fortune 500 companies) will listen our issues. Staying with small consulting firm doesn't going to help in getting your GC faster, but it's going to force Fortune 500 companies to talk to Senators/Congressmen.

As a matter of fact, today I received a mail from John Kerry begging for campaign donation. This man has spine made of rubber.

If you like President Bush, go ahead to donate money to John Kerry, and then let the Republican know that John Kerry pledge for compaign fund from a non US citizen :D or you can do the same thing to W Bush.

Buy some sauce

Kerry's wife Teresa is a naturerlized citizen. She may understand it well than anyone. Buy some Heinz sauce. DNC had it all.

Spanish version of www.johnkerry.com has talks something on immigration. I do not know Spanish. Since the English version does not have any information, may be the website talks only about family based immigration.

Hmm

Well, here is the fact. Writting an angry e-mail will not do any good. We should have done our homework long time back. Once we become immigrant and citizen later, we forget what we come thru. I see lot of my fellow immigrants friends, brothers, families who has gone thru this and become citizen don't even vote. Don't even think about involving in politics.

I really don't want to hurt anybody. I don't have the right to recommend anybody to get involve in politics. However, things will never change until we have a strong voice on our side.

Beating round the wrong BUSH

Do You guys think Mr. Kerry going to win in the next election? I seroiusly doubt it. Politicians (most of them) just promise, and wont deliver. What happened to Mr. Bush's last election promise, 6 month to get GC?? Ha hah.
Immigration is least favored issue at this point. Thats why GOP not able to win minority-majority states like Hawaii, California, New Mexico, etc. Sure in less than 5 years, Texas, Nevada, Arizona, and New york will join the league.
If the politicians dont respect the immigration issues, its tough to win hearts of the all segments of the society. ;)
