John Kerry hasn't even listed Immigration reforms as an issue. We need to make sure we get heard, please go to www.johnkerry.com and send him a mail. We are sufferring at the hands of DHS and he should be aware of it. Here's what I wrote in my email.

Dear Mr. Kerry:

What's your policy to reduce the immigration backlog? I am one among thousand of Indian computer professionals who are suffering from delays at the hands of DHS. We are loyal, educated , legal workers making serious contribution to the American economy living thousands of miles away from our home trying to make a better life and make a difference to the American economy. But still the Permanent residency delays are killing us. I have filed my adjustment of status application two years back and I still see no signs of any progress, I had to wait 2 years for my labor certification prior to that. On top of that we have to renew our Employment authorizations (EAD) cards every year and we have to file 6 months in advance to get the cards in time so we can continue to work. Immigration reforms are a must and must be addressed in your speeches. Immigrants like me are making serious contribution to the American economy. We need your help in us be able to live the American dream!!

Thanks for lending your ear.

Regards,
abc

Joyd,

anybody is better than GWB for now.

Look, 4 years ago, when he got elected, he promised to
the immigrant's communities, Hispanics, Cubans, etc., all
of those who could help him to get elected, that he would
reduce the backlog to 6 months. At that time, backlog was
about one year.

Today, where do we stand ?
Instead of doing what he promised, backlog grew to
4 years. More in certain cases. So, with or without
plan, republican or democrat, anybody is better than GWB.

The Cubans will now also suffer from the new
regulations put into place: starting this August, Cubans who are
in the USA will be given authorization to visit their relatives
abroad only two weeks, EVERY THREE YEARS !
So, if your mother there is 80 years old, it's not sure you're
going to see her again. That's just inhumane...
We pay the bill for political plays.

In addition, I do not believe in the Ohata memos and so on.
That's prossibly just a scam: they approve a few cases so that
everyone hopes and think's that, after all, they are doing it
right, and it's better to vote for GWB. No way, for now.
Till now, there has been more lies and deception than real intend
to help us, so please do not fall into this trap. Look at the facts:
a growing backlog from 1 year to 4 years, after being promised
a reduction to 6 years.
In addition, GWB tried to attract votes from the Hispanics and Cubans
by suggesting a plan of legalizing the undocumented aliens
(people who entered the US illegally). That's a very unpopular topic
for many Americans. He suggested it because there is no risk to see
it adopted. But gives him some votes, isn't it ? So, deception and
nothing else. Do not believe in it. There will be no action taken
an election year, and promises do not make him and his govt. liable.
AYou can read this on all immigration web sites, including aila.
Nothing will be done an election year. It's frozen, and even if
GWB get's elected, well, we know from his promise to reduce backlog
to 6 months, that we cannot rely on this.

One may tell, yes, but 9/11:
well, if the system would not have been broken, if measures would have
been taken earlier to eliminate the backlog, the country would for
sure have been safer, and latest at least now.
People stuck in this neverending harassing immigration
maze are likely to do some mistake at some point and become illegals.
Reducing backlog improves everything, also security, as files would
be up-to-date, addresses and employers info recent, etc. Easier
to keep track of the foreigners, less illegal immigration as well.
Bottom line is that this actual administration did nothing during
years to improve security by reducing the backlog, and the fact that
they try to put into place some measures like the Ohata memo is just
to give us some wrong hopes, and I fear that after the elections
everything will be the same. With GWB we know what we got:
increase in backlog, so why not try with Kerry ? Of course, we cannot
vote ourselves, but we can tell it to our fellows in the Hispanic, Cuban
communities who have the chance to be US citizens.
GWB: we know from past 4 years. JK: we do not know, but
it cannot be worse....

I will believe in the Ohata memo, will even tell my friends to vote
for GWB, and will post it here as well when I have my I-140/I485
approved concurrently (ND Aprol 2, 2003). Then I will start to
believe what I'm told, and also start to believe again in freedom.

Take care.

God Bless America,
