I am planning to apply for TN status at the end of the month, and was hoping to tap the collective wisdom here with respect to job titles. My problem can be summarized as:
What NAFTA calls it: Engineer
What my boss calls it: Embedded Systems Engineer
What the DOL calls it: Electronics Engineer
This part of the NAFTA list seems a source of confusion, since being the job of "Engineer" without specification seems a little strange/may not exist.
So three possibilities:
1) Go with just Engineer to make things easy for the CBP officer.
2) Line up my job title with the DOL title and put that on the TN letter.
3) Just leave it as is, since the duties listed match those for a DOL category.
For that matter, am I putting too much stock in DOL listings that are not directly connected to NAFTA? It just seems to since there are both Mechinical Engineers and Sanitation Engineers, and I am fairly certain that only one qualifies for TN status, that I should back it up somehow.
Many thanks, ari
