I'm a researcher working at a university on an H1b visa (currently on year 3). My employers have told me they want to give me a job promotion & salary raise but doing so will require them to re-file the H-1 paperwork with Labor & USCIS. Since that is expensive and cumbersome, they will do it when they renew my H1b visa.
Could someone clarify how true this is? The promotion would be from 'research assistant' to 'research associate' and the job duties would be 90% the same, except they would be performed with more independence, less supervision.
