Job profile change during GC process

Any help is appreciated regarding input on implications of GC process due to job profile change -
Can a person change his/her job from engineering to marketing during GC process.

I have heard that GC is for a "Job to be taken once GC is approved, and one can take any job during GC process but once it is approved,the person has to join that job on which GC is approved".
how true is above statement?
