Job option after marrying a US cittizen

Hello!

Am currently on OPT visa which expires in July 2010. My current job is directly related to my degree.

I will be marrying a US citizen next month. My question is...

After I marry can I change my job to anything beyond my degree. As am getting an offer which is higher paid and secured than what I have. But it is not related to my degree. Can I take this job immediately after I marry? Or do I need to wait till I get a GC.

Am really not sure of the process. Please guide.

When you apply for a GC, you can apply at the same time for an employement authorization. Once you get that you can work at any job you want regardless.

When I applied a long time ago, it took about a month and a half to get the card and it was valid for one year and could be renewed every year. I heard somewhere that they now issue a 2 year cards but I'm not sure.

Neither; the answer is somewhere in between. You can take the job before you get the GC, but that is only after you marry a USC and file the green card paperwork and obtain an employment authorization card. It takes about 2-3 months to get that card after filing the relevant paperwork.
