Job Change

We got our I-485 approved last week. Is it ok for my husband (the main applicant) to change his job rightaway? He has been offered a 33% increase by his client.

Can his current employers revoke his GC or cause any problems?
Thanks
Maha

no, it is not okay.

All, I am very interested in this too. Could you please post links to message threads in which this is already discussed? Also, at first glance, this seems to be a subjective area. Are there any cases in which GC has been cancelled or naturalization has not worked out because of switching jobs too early?

None . nobody has reported anything like that yet.

Talk to lawyers

Maha,

Try talking to Immigration lawyers. I spoke to at least three of them. All of them are suggesting there is no rule. As soon as you got your GC you are free bird and you cannot be made to stick with employer when others can swith wmployer even without GC by using AC21. Couple of them told me that if you have reasons to resign that would be the best to quit. And waiting for 90 days(30-60-90 thing)...if possible you may want to. Like someone said, don't go by the postings by famous immigration lawyers on their website, try to talk to them, if needed take paid consulation.
So, instead of wasting time posting here, just talk to lawyers and decide. Like Rajiv said "It depends" and varies from case to case.

Try to talk to your local lawyer thru aila.org's "Need a lawyer" link.

My opinion

If you leave the sponsoring employer within a month then it might cause problems at citizenship. Beyond 1 month, it is all speculative, with different people taking different positions. I personally advise people to wait for 3 months, but if you got a damn good offer, then it might be worth taking the risk by leaving the sponsor after completing 1 month (after GC). It all depends on your confidence on your job skills. If you think that you can get great opportunities after 3 months also, then you better give up the current opportunity and complete the 3 months with sponsoring employer.
