Job change and 6 month rule

Folks,
      I am left with no option but change over to a permanent employee of the company with whom I am a consultant now. I applied for I-485 in December-2000. Is it safe to change companies based on 6 month rule ??

I would suggest to hang on, if u can, until INS comes out with guidelines. Of course, a handful of guys changed their jobs before the INS guidelines.
