What should I ask my former employer to do after I change job!!!!

I have read many postings saying, if the former employer supports you, than the job change after 180 days should not be a problem. I am wondering what does this support means.

My former employer is cooperative, but they do not have any idea themselves nor do I as to what action of their\'s would jeopardize my GC or what would support it.

Should they keep quiet about my job change and do not inform anything to INS ie. do not go ahead with H1 cancellation etc.
Are they legally bound to inform INS about my changing job.

Should I submit a letter of resignation as it is not a layoff ( although it was imminent if not for my job change)

All suggestions are greatly appreciated.
