I am currently doing my fellowship training on j1 visa. I was wondering if I could get some help from the valuable members of this forum:
1) My j1 7 years are expiring in 1 year. I want to pursue an extra year of training in my speciality. ECFMG tells me that I can easily get one year extension on my J1 from the dept of state. However this will be heavily weighed against my job-based wavier in future whenever I apply for it. Just wondering if anybody had such experience and how difficult it is to get a job wavier once you extend your stay more than 7 years on physician wavier.
2) Other option is to apply for exceptional hardship wavier on the basis of my US born child and my permanent resident wife. Some of my friends have managed to get this wavier. I was wondering how easy it is to get this wavier and what sort of time line I should look for processing of such wavier.
I will appreciate inputs.
