Can some one advise, how much time it takes to get a J1 waiver from USCIS (Vermont center: possibly) after favourable recommendation from the State Department. Thanks

I got my waiver via the TX service center, 3 weeks after the DOS made a favorable recommendation.
Oct 12, 2006 - Favorable recommendation sent by DOS to USCIS
Nov 3, 2006 - USCIS issued final approval of waiver

Not sure if I saw your post before, if so I must've replied to you already.

Your reposting is confusing really, since you got a favorable rec, that is it, you're techinically done. the rest is just bureaucracy.
Unless you'll be the unlikiest person in the US to have a favgorable rec by DOS denied by USCIS, that never happened before.

You said you got a positive answer form DOS, that is enough to get any thing started (Green crad, H1, any thing......). Provided of course USCIS approves your waiver, which is usualy the case. USCIS never goes against DOS rec.

Whatever time it takes the USCIS for the final approval, would always be shorter that any other petition (H!, GC, etc...), hence you can send the final approval later to complete whatever application you're after.

J1 waiver approval. Thanks for replies

I received my j1 waiver final approval today. Time line is:
DOS papers received: Sept. 25, 2006
NOC received: Oct, 13, 2006
Favorable Recommendation sent: Nov. 01, 2006
USCIS Approval: Nov. 11, 2006.
USCIS Approval received: Nov. 16, 2006

Thanks to everyone who replied to my questions and kept my hopes high. This is an excellent website.

Request for post waiver Timeline

Congrats on getting waiver.

We members of the forums would appreciate if u could post the complete timeline of ur waiver approval, starting from the first step taken ( If u r from India, u might have sent documents to get attested from India). This would help aspiring J1 holders to get started in waiver process.

Thanks

DJ
