Anyone who has a J1 stamp in their passport should be able to answer this...

Is the residency/fellowship program name written anywhere on the visa stamp?

(i.e. if the J1 visa initially stamped in the passport is still valid but you have changed residency/fellowship programs (still ECFMG sponsored though), can you travel to the US with the original visa)?

I my case Exchange Visitor Program number was mentioned in the 'Annotation' in all my J-1 visa stamps, e.g. IAP-66 P-1-****. This is the same number as in the IAP-66 form (currently DS-2019). Sometime this number is also duplicated in I-94 by an INS (USCIS) officer at the U.S. border.
