My J1 visa expired on November 30th and I am in grace period now which ends on 30th December. I am offered a position now, but the process of J1 visa extension (DS2019) might not start before 30th December because of vacation period this week. So can I still stay in US after December 30th to pursue the extension process or should I leave the country on Dec 30th? Once I go back to India, I can't come back until 2 yrs as I am bound to 2 yr home residency rule. Please let me know as soon as possible as I am in a very desperate situation now coz I might have to leave the country in a week from now, if I had no choice.
