I applied for opt on August 17th, and received a receipt notice on August 30th. My application says "under review" on the uscis website. The problem is that I have to start my job by the second week of october, and unfortunately I cannot get it extended. I have been reading and listening to horror stories about timeline for receiving the opt card, and I am now freaking out! This job is so important for me I simply cannot lose it. An international advisor at my new place suggested that I can go back to my home country (Turkey) and apply for J1 there (the school that I am going to work at is willing to sponsor me for J1), because that will be the fastest. I checked with the US embassy in Turkey and they can give me a fast appointment date. So it seems like applying for J1 in my home country seems to be the fastest option. But I am wondering if any of you guys knows about this, and if there can be any caveats with this process. Please, any help is appreciated!
