I am an Indian Citizen and have been in the US on a J1 visa for a year. I have got an admit into graduate school. My DS-2019 states that I am subject to the 2year Home residency rule but my field "Life sciences" is not in the exchange visitor skill list for India. I have requested for an advisory opinion on the same. My grad school starts in August 2005.
These are the questions that I have
1. How long does an advisory opnion take to process?
2. Can I get a J1-F1 change of status done in the US itself? If so how long does it take?
3. Is it better if I go back to my home country and get a F1 visa?
Which of the two options would be more advisable?
Please advice.
Thank you.
