While in the US, I had my J1 Status changed to F1, reportedly an extraordinary occurance.
When I went home to Israel to visit my family before school started, the US embassy wouldn't approve the F1 visa. They told me I wasn't really close to my family....or why would I want to be away so long. How could they say this.....I talk to them every day on the phone (video phone) and they visited me and I risked everything to go visit them. This was such a wrong judgement. I felt like she was mocking me.
They also couldn't understand why I wanted a US school when Israeli schools are just as good. They wouldn't accept the true statement that a US diploma is like gold.
The person wasn't respectful to me...she told me the papers that I had submitted to Homeland Security Dept that resulted in the J1-F1 were not helpful and wouldn't look at them.... Even if the original F1 status was irrelevant now, those essays were persuasive before and I don't know how she could just dismiss them. I don't think I got a fair interview
I am going to reapply but what are the chances they will listen next time if they didn't this time? What can I do to help my case?
I have the family I lived with in the US fighting for me....they are getting their Senators to write letters but I am told this usually doesn't help.
Any and all advice would be so helpful.
thanks
