Hi

I have been offered a position in a medically underserved area in Michigan. The Empoyer is a for profit organization.

The attorney for the employer is suggesting that this might be a problem with my j-1 waiver as they are for profit organization.

Can you please suggest a solution

Sincerely

Bahiya

No bearing.

That should have no bearing on your J waiver.

What matters is that you're serving an underserved area, that is it.

Wait - why did your lawyer tell you this? Perhaps this is in reference to whatever status you are planning to apply for after receiving your waiver?

True, the nature of your employer has no bearing on obtaining the waiver. But, if you are planning to obtain an H1-B visa, keep in mind that the cap for this year has been reached and you will be unable to start working until October 1 2007. If your employer was a non-profit, there would be no cap to worry about. So perhaps your lawyer was referring to your plans after receiving the waiver, not the waiver itself? Just making sure...
