Hi, I am on a J 1 visa doing my residency. When I got my stamping from Mexico on my IAP 66 the visa officer checked the box that said, NOT SUBJECTED TO 2 YEAR HOME COUNTRY REQUIREMENT.Has any body know a situation like this? I am not sure if by mistake she checked the wrong box.I will appreciate if any body knows the answer. Thanks in advance

It is a mistake. If you are a physician doing residency then you are subject to 2 year home residency requirement.

Thanks for your input. I just now found out that 2 of my collegues in my program also got it the same way like I got. Both of them applied from Mexico. One of them even applied for 485 through his wife\'s lawyer(wife is a computer programmer applied for 485).He got his AP and EAD.He is also in a mixed state wondering what will happen to his GC?He contacted 2 lawyers and one says he will get GC and another says he will not.Isn\'t it bizaare?

INS does make mistakes all the time. I know of a guy who got a J-1 after he had applied for Green Card through his wife ( who was a Green Card Holder ). Another of my friends got his Green Card before completing his 5 year NIW requirement. I am not sure what will happen if at some point INS discovers it has made a mistake.
