Hi,
I am currently on J-1 visa at one University. My program here ends in March. My current DS-2019 is valid until June, 2008 but, obviously, will be terminated with the end of the current program. I recently found a position at another University. They offered me to transfer my current J-1 under their sponsorship before the end of my current program. I have no 2Y HRR at present. However, last July I submitted I-140 and it is still pending. I have not filed I-485 concurrently.
Questions:
1. Can I do this J-1 > J-1 transfer without any problems?
2. Can my new J-1 bear 2Y HRR?
3. After one files I-140, can he/she travel outside US and come back with valid J-1 visa and valid DS-2019 form?
4. Any possible complications in such situation?

On the DS-2019 renewal form, nothing is asked whether a person applied for permanent residentship or not. However, on the instructions sheet, there is a line - " a person is not eligible for J status if he/she applied for H class visa or US permanent Residence status (green card).
