ITIN for dependents

Hi there
I am a Canadian citizen and resident commuting to working in Buffalo NY. I am in the process of applying for ITIN for my two children to claim them as dependents on my tax return. I actually did already send in an application with their birth certificates and health cards, SSN as a form of ID but it was denied. I just got them passports today and plan to reapply. Anybody have any experience with this? Will they accept my application with passports?
 
Do you mean that your children have SSNs? If so, people who have SSNs are not eligible for ITINs.

Are you filing your tax return or amendment now together with the ITIN application?
 
Sorry no, I always confuse the acronyms lol. They have social insurance numbers (Canadian) they did not accept these numbers as proof of identity. I filed my 2022 tax return with my application and it has been suspended pending alternative form of ID. However I unfortunately haven’t received the mail yet .. thinking there is a delay from us to Canada
