It is taking 16 months for I-485 approval!!??

I am waiting for my I-485 approval with ND 12/00. When I checked with INS no updates, My I-140 papers are in Chennai consulate. Also when I checked with my attorney, they say that INS has said them that now days it is taking 16 months for I485 approval. Did any one hear such thing. Also nowadays I am not seeing lot of approvals. Any input is appreciated.
