It is really sad to see some (a lot?!?) of the July and August
filers still waiting. I might as well go and send for
my EAD renewal (expiring-Nov. 27) by first week of September.

I just re-applied for EAD as per my lawyer's recommendation and my RD is 8/15/01, case has just been assigned and EAD expires Nov 15th. Its probably good that you are re-applying as well.
 
I also just applied for the EAD renewal. I talked to an IIO two weeks back and came to know that my case has been assigned (although the language used by him was "Your case is now in the final stage of adjudication which it was not two weeks ago")

Heard nothing as yet.
