Is this wise or risky?

My attorney recently ask me to pay the legal fees in Hourly Basis instead of paying as case basis.

I had alreay paid $5000 for my Lab and I-140. Right now nobody knows how long the I-485 will take to be completed. Is this mean that the legal fees will increase dramatically on the hour base?

I had asked some other attorneys and they offer me $1500 for the I-485 filing as amount of case legal fee. The question is will this be risky if I am going to change attorney since I am not yet to file I-485 now? And will the new attorney need any documents from my current attorney?

If you have the same experince I am appreciated your reply, thank you.

You can change attorney at any time. There is no risk involved with that. Many people does the I-485 on their own. So there should not be any problem.

Do not go by the hourly rate. No No No. I have a family based case and although ours is a simple case and should not cost more than 2000 dollars. Because of the hourly we have paid more than 5000 dollars and we are no way near done- stuck in name check. I would not suggest it. Even replying to en e mail is charged 50-100 dollars.

Do it your self

I-485 does not need a brainer. You can do it your self. Do not let those thieves rip you off. It just a matter of certain itmes that you need to attach to the form.

My cousin did his family based case from a-z and he got approved in less than a year. I also did my I-485 for me and my self, and we got one RFE related legal status paper work. The only bad thing about it the name check, otherwise, you should be ok doing it your self. Here are the checklist for each form. Good luck then.
