Some banks / lenders do not lend to even H1Bs, though not all are so picky.
EAD / AOS presents a particularly vexing problem in many cases including lenders where:
(a) people do not understand the concept of status, other than VISA or GC
(b) do not understand the concept of AOS, and hence will argue that you are NOT proving legal status with an expired H1 and an I-485 receipt, unless you can show them an unexpired EAD. I have faced this stupidity at DMV for a family member, and with security at NASA for myself, for badge issuance. Fortunately, I went and got iEAD.
The long and short of it is that human rights violations of a civil (as opposed to criminal) nature are happenning all the time under the present system:
- people are forced to put life events on hold
- get loans refused adding to assault upon dignity in addition to inability to acquire and abode even when able to afford it and allowed by law, which should be a basic human right
- have forced restrictions on travel plans
- undergo hardship in being denied educational aid for themselves/children
- due to an archaic system, that no one overhauls, cannot change employers at will until some stupid AOS procedure is complete despite being approved for an immigrant visa (I-140) on the strength of the fact that they contribute valuable technical skills to the economy
just to name a few.
Illegals immigrants have it much better.
