Is this a new rule

my 1st H1 is expiring in feb 2005. I wanted to get my 2nd H1 but was forwarded this atricle yesterday

according to this, I need to go back to India to get my H1 extended. Is this correct. My understanding was that I could apply for an extension within the US itself. Can someone please advise.

Yes you can apply for extension within US. only the stamping/revalidation that you could do earlier from St. louis has stopped. visa extension and stamping are two entirely difft things

Thanks for the response. can you outline the steps that I need to take to get my h1 extended.

If there is a thread that i should refer to (which i bet there is) can you please guide me to that.

I am unfamiliar with the process so all help is appreciated.
