Is there any way to start a business on H1B

Hi Everybody,

Another post on the same old topic. I understand that I can start a company but can't work for it while I"m on H1B and am working for another employer. And my green card is atleast 3 yrs away. So

1. Is there any way I can start or be part of a legitimate business ( besides buying shares of a big company ) in USA and make some money out of it .

2.If I'm selling my old computer on Ebay and make some bucks out of it, am I breaking the law ? If not then does law prevent me from making money by selling stuff online without even registering or bothering about giving any formal name to my online sales business.

3.What's the way then ( if any ) ? Should I get help from a US citizen in starting a business. But the business would be a start up so won't be any shares or anything, then how would I make money. Call it consulting, call it volunteering, or call it whatever, is there any legitimate way I can make money outside of my H1B job.

4. I know people on H1B who own LLCs and they just pay the due taxes at the end of the year and no body seems to have bothered them so far. It seems the IRS ( or immigration ) isn't caring who's actually working for the company as long as taxes keep on coming . So what's going on there ?

Or should I just sit tight till I get my Green Card ?

That was a great reply, thanks a lot. It confirms the doubts that I had in mind. But I would appreciate if you can elaborate a little bit ( or point to a resource ) about the "passive investor" situation.

What would being a passive investor be like ?

Would I have to show some kinda investment to be a passive investor?

If yes what kinda investment is legally allowed ?

And if the business is like a small start up then what kinda arrangement would need to made that I get some share of the profits/income ( or dividend or what ever we would call that could be paid to me )

Maybe I can help someone start a business with an investment and then get returns ( or some sort ) on that investment ? Can I ?
