Is there a format for covering letter for N-400 application

Not to my knowledge. However, I recommend that you use paper clips to attache the check and picture to your application. The BCIS doesn't like when applications are stapled.

Hi P8085,
How about application form which is ten page in total. Did you staple that or did you use paper clip? It makes sense to use paper clip for picture and check. But is it safe to use paper clip
for the 10 page application form? I have doubt the way BCIS handles things, they don't pay much attention, and one or two paper may get lost from the original application if it is attached with a clip. Which will eventually leads to delay. Please reply ASAP. -----Thanks-----Choy

I used three paper clips. To hold an attachment together, to hold the N-400 application, copy of green card with the pictures together and the third to hold the check and the two packages together.

I read on many web sites that the BCIS doesn't like stapled applications or folded applications. Therefore, I made sure that my application is easy to be handled by a BCIS clerk.

I did the same with my Green card application, several years ago.

Thanks P8085. Also, did you use your regular check to pay the fee or did you use a certified check?

You can use a money order or certified check. In any case, just make sure to make the check payable to BCIS. The fee for the N-400 application is 310 dollars. This includes the finger printing fee.
