Is the H1-B visa extension given only for 9(6+3) years?

I heard that visa extension period for H1-B visa will not exceed 6+ 3 = 9 Years (Labor pending for 1 year) :o
Is that true?.
As far as i know this rule applies to only those who has I-140 still pending.
Can anyone throw some light on this topic.?

No I don't believe there is any restriction on the number of extension you can get for the H1B. As long as your LC application is still alive (meaning not denied) you can get extensions.
