Hi All,

I came to US 3 weeks back on H1B. I applied for SSN immediately and I was told that it should take between 1-8 weeks to get the SSN card.

Yesterday I got an assignment with a client. The client asked me for my SSN. I checked with my consulting company whether SSN is a must to take up a job with the client, but they are not giving me a clear picture.

Is SSN required to take up this position?
Can I request for a temporary SSN at my local office?

Thanks

SSN number is required to take up any job in the US. Without that you cannot work.

If your employer agrees, You could start the work based on the letter you received from the SSN office but you cannot get paid till you receive the SSN
