I have done my Graduation from a different place than the place of residence. I stayed in a hostel/private acco. for the entire years of education. As it was a semester pattern, I used to come home every 4-5 months (and go back after vacation end). Do I need to get PCC from my college place also.

As it is the immigration officer may ask, that since u have ur graduation from xx place, u need to get PCC from there too..

Any person have had this kind of PCC requirement?

Thanks in advance

Hi forsms2002,

Since you are asking this question, i assume that you are in india. You need a PCC from indian police authorities only if you are currently in india. You need 2 PCCs. One from the regional passport office (RPO) and the other from the police authorities serving your area of residence. (SP office/Commisioner's office/police station)

You don't need PCCs for your previous stays. You only need from your current residence area. The PCC mentions that this person has been residing at ADDRESS since DATE and there is no adverse information against him.

PCC from RPO can be taken in one day if your passport was issued after 1997.

forsms2002,

I have seen in another thread where you are asking whether you need a PCC for your US stay. You don't need a PCC from US since you are in india since more than an year.

You just need 2 PCCs for yourself (and for dependents, if any) :

1. from RPO
2. from police authorities

PCC reqd. of all places where stayed after age of 16

I am in India for the past 1.5 years (prior to that I was in US for 1.5 years). So, I guess I don't need any PCC from US.

And the ds2001fill.pdf "INSTRUCTIONS FOR IMMIGRANT VISA APPLICANTS" file says

Each visa applicant aged 16 years or over is required to submit a police certificate from the police
authorities of each locality of the country of the applicant's nationality or current residence where the applicant has resided for at least six months since attaining the age of sixteen.

And my college was for 4 years and I stayed in Hostel. and hence I am having this doubt.

Yes, if the current Police station gives in writing that I have been staying at the currrent residence since dd/mm/yyyy date (which will start from pre-college date) than it should be fine. I am still confused.

Thanks and awaiting for reply

forsms2002,

Don't worry. You just need for your current residence only. Just take the PCC from the office covering your area and that should be enough.

Also you will be taking another PCC from RPO.

forsms2002:

PCC issued either by Indian consulate in usa or by local police authorities and regional passport office in india covers criminal history in India not just the local place fo residence in india. Hence there is no need to get PCC from every city in india you lived in. If you are in usa then get from indian consulate or if you are in india then get from your current local police and regional passport office!@

clarification..more than one PCC

The packet 3 clearly states:
1 Police certificates are required for each visa applicant aged 16 and older.
2 The table below shows how many police certificates are required based on where each applicant lives and has lived previously . Present and former residents of the United States should NOT obtain police certififcates covering their residence in US.

There is a table which I have attached here.

Then it states,

cover the entire period of the applicant's residence in that area.

Is there any other document which Mr. Kd1403 and cpzinga are referring to?, because as per the document, I will need PCC from my earlier place of stays including the college place?
I would appreciate if somebody can share his/her experinces...i.e. persons who stayed at more than two places after 16 years of age but actually went with only current residence PCC and in the DS-230 Part 1 - page 2 - column 20 specified two addresses..

Thanks to KD and cpzinga and all others !!!

forms2000,

If you feel unsecure, then proceed and take PCC for your previous stays also.

But I had taken only one PCC for the interview. Even i was staying in india (more than your stay) and I took only one PCC from police authorities (+ PCC from RPO).

There are others who had taken only one PCC from police (CPfromIndia, Sudden, Faiz, Sri20, etc many other but i don't remember all)

what did u mention in the DS-230 Part 1 - page 2 - column 20

Thanks for that quick response.

CPZinga, then what did mention DS-230 Part 1 - page 2 - column 20 for example until the age of say 20 years if u stayed in place PL1, than from 21 to 25 at place PL2 and from 25 till the time u recieved P3, u stayed at place PL3 than did u mention about PL1, PL2 and PL3 in col 20 or just PL3?

also, what was the from date in the PL3 (i.e. current place)..in the PCC? Normally, police may give u a date ranging from 25yrs to till date...?

Are the CP processing of the names u mentioned viz CPfromIndia, Sudden, Faiz, Sri20, etc were/are from Mumbai consulate? Sometimes, procedure from consulates-to-consulates may differ..? Mine is from Mumbai conuslate.

I really appreciate the you all for the responses. All this thing, even lawyers may not be able to give the perfect guidance. But will all our experiences shared, the CP interview process now seems to be easier than before I joined this forum.

Thanks!!!

PCC:

All indian PCC's issued whether by indian consulate in usa or Local Police & RPO in india are valid for 180 days from date of issuance. PCC covers the individual criminal activities (if any) until the date of issuance of the PCC. So only 1 pcc is required from Indian consulate or 1 from local police and 1 from RPO PER PERSON irrespective of multiple city stays in india or prior or post marriage. Remember pcc is issued for a person.

==============================================

DS-230 Part 1 - page 2 - column 20 is simply a listing of places/ countries you have stayed in over the last xx years.

==============================================

Most (not all) of the experiences you will see on this site relate to indian consulate which includes NWD, Mumbai and Chennai
