Is name check only a VSC issue

What about 485 applicants in TSC,CSC,NSC etc. Are they going thru the same hell ?
I believe everyone has to go through the FBI namecheck. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
Whether the service center sends the namecheck requests in time or not varies from one SC to the other. VSC has screwed up a lot of applications by not sending namecheck requests (at least I know of this issue for most of the april 03 filers).
IMO, in every service center a section of (unlucky) applicants must be going through "hell".

One of my friend got his approvals from VSC, But i guess he dint have the FBI name check stuff.

I think it is not to every case i guess

From 2002 onwards USCIS(INS) stopped approving 485's, if the name check is pending. It is must for each and every application for GC/Citizenship(Also) who is aging between 16-72.

Do you mean he did not have to go through FBI namecheck? How does he know that namecheck was not done for him?

Ok guys, went to him once again.
He was not sure at what point the FBI name check is done. Being his FP was done some time in first week of November and approval in december 22nd and there is no name check delay's as he see for many people in this forum. So he is predicting that there is no name check for him....

God only know's why for some people it is such a long wait and other's not.

Name check takes 1 day - upto 2+ Years also. It is pure luck. 90% applicants check will clear in 1-2 days, out of remaining 10% -- around 5% applicants will be cleared in 3 - 6 months, remaining applicants on the mercy of FBI. My wife case got cleared in 1 day where as my case took 10 months after lot of phone calls, e-mails, reg. letters, congressman's contacts etc...

Name Check when requested through USCIS computers, it gets processed in about less than 5 minutes as everything is automated and the results are written in a log file, whether the name check got cleared or it got a HIT.

And once every weekend, there is another batch process which reads the Log file for the entire week and it updates the FBI database for future reporting or futher processing on all the HIT names.

sree1965,
I believe in your case, USCIS requested the name check and it was just sitting with FBI for about nine months right ?
Actually, my wife name was request on March 7th 2003 and it got cleared the same day, where as USCIS has not initiated my name check till date and I am working with our congressman to cross this big hurdle of Name Check.

You are right. CIS Initiated on March 8th, but has to wait for 10 months to clear......

No....

In my humble opinion, the answer is NO.

Delays are being caused by plaguing systemic problems with the entire
agency called USCIS.

As per what I have learnt so far, I have FP's cleared by FBI, Name Check
cleared by FBI, and yet I am a Sept 2002 filer with a PD of July, 1999 still
waiting.

I really think the problems are much more deep rooted than that.

I kinda tend to agree...cos I called up USCIS sometime a couple of weeks back and was told that all checks have been cleared and that I should wait till an adjudicator processes my case !!! I think I should take this with a pinch of salt ... ;)

Let me add to the info here.
In my case, I got the reponse from FBI saying that my namecheck was done and results sent to CIS.
Interestingly, the date the namecheck was done was within 15 days from the notice date of 140/485.
So, obviously, in my case, namecheck was not the hindering factor. I wonder what it is ..

As if this was not enough to get you a wink of sleep!!!!
I just scanned some 200 cases around Aug 12/2003 (my 485 filed date)

Here is what I got

EAC0323##### RFE sent 12/2/2004 RFE sent
EAC0323##### Resumed 9/26/2003 Resumed/FP recvd
EAC0323##### Received 8/13/2003 Received
EAC0323##### Resumed 10/21/2004 Resumed/FP recvd
EAC0323##### Resumed 11/29/2004 Resumed/FP recvd
EAC0323##### Transferred 11/9/2004 Transferred
EAC0323##### Unknown 1/13/2005 Misc
EAC0323##### Transferred 11/9/2004 Transferred
EAC0323##### Transferred 11/24/2004 Transferred
EAC0323##### Resumed 11/3/2003 Resumed/FP recvd
EAC0323##### Transferred 1/6/2005 Transferred
EAC0323##### Transferred 11/24/2004 Transferred
EAC0323##### Received 8/13/2003 Received

Summarizing, Out of 14 cases,
6 cases are received/resumed
6 cases are transferred
None approved

So how can it possibly be that all non-approved cases above are pending cos of name check !!!!! Some problem with USCIS is lurking somwhere..... Someones asleep on the switch...needs a kick on his a** !!!!!
