I recently got an email from FBI saying that they have completed my name check and submited the results to USCIS. My question is if there is any other check pending with FBI? Is Name Check same as Security Check?

LiveAndLetLive,

when did you send your email to FBI ? I sent on Nov 16th and still have no answer so far...

CIA name check

In maye they have told me they are waiting name check from CIA as well beside FBI.

Does anybody have inside about this ?

I believe it is initiated during FP, but I may be wrong

Name check is initiated soon after they receive I-485 (mine was initiated in Oct 2003, pending since then, and my I-485 was received by them on Sept 28, 2003)

My understanding

Here is my understanding of different types of security checks for I485 applicants :
1) FP check done by FBI
2) Name check by FBI (not sure when INS requests for this) but it usually takes 30 to 60 days for normal cases.
3) Name check by adjudicator using the IBIS system (i think CIA feeds data to this system). It only takes a few seconds for the adjudicator. But if your name is not cleared by the system (if it gets a hit), then INS makes a request to CIA to make a security check (name check) on you.

Essentially, the name check by FBI looks at domestic records and name check by CIA looks at international records.

Yes

VSC officers have visibility to this information although they have to look at a different screen or application. My experience in getting this information has not been that good though. In one conversation I was told that the name check was request in Nov 04. When we called 45 days later I was told the name check has been pending since Sept 03. Go figure!

Is there anyway of knowing if this was initiated for our case?

You can't ask them if they have done their IBIS check or not. They do this check once in every 6 months for the pending applications (they used to do it every 3 months). If your name gets a hit, then they will tell you (when you go through a congress man) that CIA name check is pending. That's the only way you can figure out.

Hi Satish,

Please make it clear for me, per FBI my name check is completed and was sent back to VSC on 09/01/2004.

Now let say they want to do again IBIS check and if my name get hit then what?

Thanks LiveAndLetLive for your wishes in another thread and I hope you get approval fast.

I think the information dSatish posted here seems to be very genuine because I attended the interview on 2/15 and I observed the AOS files had sheet sticking on top of the file which had written on it with Big Bold letters:
- Finger Printing
- Name Check
-IBIS
Khan Bacha... I believe if they do that check on someone and they get a hit, they would want to satisfy themselves that you are not that person. That may take anything, - calling that individual for interview, checking about certain dates for that person like DOB/Country of Birth or where that person was at certain time in past e.g. if you get a name hit (I hope you don't) with someon who was in Iraq in year 2000 as per CIA info and you were working here full time for some company, they would be sure that the name hit is false. They have to satisfy themselvers - whatever it takes.

Good Luck
