Is marriage certificate needed for one parent and one child joint OCI application?

Does anyone know whether there is any reason for the marriage certificate to be included in a family OCI app for just one parent and one child? Proof of child relationship is the birth certificate where both parents' names are but does the marriage certificate of the parents also need to be included for proof of relationship of the parents of the child? Even if only one parent is applying for OCI?

When I had applied jointly for my son's and my OCIs a few months ago, one reason they sent things back was that I had not included copies of my wife's passport. I think that was needed for my son's part of the app.

----No, You don't need marriage certificate but you need the consent letter of your wife or some details of your wife like passport copies or PIO or her OCI details. They ask for that to make sure you all are in a family and in consent witheach other.
If you and your wife are not living togeather, you need to submit the court documents that you have legal custody.

As I am not aware of your scenario, I wrote different options. Don't take personally

Thanks. In the end, I did not include it because I didn't see the reason for it and other friends did not do this and had gotten their OCI without issues. I did include copies of my son's birth certificate (which has my name as father and my wife as mother), my wife's US passport and her driver's license to prove relationship and address of mother. My wife also signed the OCI application even though she wasn't an applicant. This was because one reason they rejected my earlier OCI submission was that my wife had not signed it and they require both parents to sign for a minor child's application even if one parent is not applying. Go figure that out when they typically don't state this clearly anywhere.
