I hear that a rule has been amended by the Canadian Government which would allow Permanent Residents to be out of Canada for a period of three years after they land. Is it true?

No! You have to live in Canada for 3 years in 7 years.

Currently you should live 183 days in a year.

Experts please reply

We landed in Canada in Feb 2001 stayed for 4 days and back in US since then. We applied for RRP for which my husband was called personally. They orally refused RRP but nothing in writing. All that we have is the SIN card with US address and the landing papers and stamp in the passport. My question:
Now with the bill C-11 will we have any problem if we try to enter Canada?

maybe not, but if they run you thru the computers then yes..

hi,

I too have been in the same situation, except that i got a job in
toronto for which i have to be there part time..I have been to
toronto and vancouver about 5-6 times since we landed in may and
at not time did they ever question me for more than 15 secs...lots
of times did not even see LP / passport !
but now with sept 11 ..i have no idea how they plan to check.

also the c-11 bill is in senate 3rd reading , and should be passed
by end of october, but the regulations will take until next summer.

so I dont know.. I too got my sin/health card/drivers lic/bank
accounts and a temp. rented place ... i guess you should be ok
if you cross by land.

Thanks tt tt. What question did they ask you? How did you get a job in Toronto when you are not living there. I have been tried many places but they reply saying that I should reside there before I apply. I do not have any address nor do I know anybody. Any tips for getting a job while I reside in US?

I applied online at monstor.ca

all the times , while crossing the border, they asked
1) how long in the US ? or how long since you were out of canada ?
in my case it was always 2-3 weeks, so that\'s it. while travelling
by air to toronto the immigration stamped my landing paper
with the date, but while crossing by road there was no stamping done
at any time.

US H-1 Emigrating to Canada

Hi,

Can someone please explain clearly if they know or point me somewhere
I can get info on this:
I am an Indian citizen on H-1 status working in the US.
I want to immigrate to Canada.. can I keep on working
for my present employer forever ?
Do I have to commute To and from Canada within specific intervals ?
Is there any workaround ?

thanks,
Gautam.
