Is it okay to have more than one certificate of citizenship?

I was wondering if naturalized citizens are allowed to have more than one certificate of citizenship? since process takes long time, I was thinking to apply for another one just in case of losing the current one.Having another one on hand as a backup would be nice.
Thanks

How about passport card? Passport card would be used as a backup. It is cheaper and faster.

The form says you can apply IF it was lost, stolen, destroyed, mutilated, name has changed, or information is incorrect. There does not seem to be any provision for "safety".

I was checking US embassy's website in the country I visit frequently and it seems like if you need to apply for replacement of lost passport outside of US the certificate is required even if you have other proof of citizenship like passport card. If you lose it while you are overseas, it will be complicated and you have to somehow return to US and apply for replacement of naturalization certificate and so forth. I was told that in case like this you will be issue temperory, one time use document to return to US after verification of your idenity and citizenship.Imagine if you are planning to visit third country or more countries on the same trip, it will be disaster.

That's not true. If you provide originals of documents that prove your citizenship like a valid passport card/enhanced driver's license - or even copies of documents like a NC, they will investigate your case. Remember there are may ways of checking citizenship status such as an A#, SSN (since we have to update our status with the SSA)... They CANNOT deny entry of a USC. You would be issued a temporary passport to facilitate your entry back home - where you would be expect to apply for replacement and fully valid US Passport. A temp passport can be valid for one year. I don't think embassies and consulates have the technology to issue the new e-passports. All applications have to be sent statewide regardless - unless it is a temp passport.

My suggestion is to never take the certificate with you on any trips. Take a clear black and white copy if you wish. Also make a copy of your passport and keep the copies in a separate location from your passport in case it gets lost.

Guess what? The embassy can issue a temporary passport even if you have no other documents proving your US citizenship. You provide the information about yourself and then they check with Dept of State or USCIS to see whether you are really a USC. Taking certificate of naturalisation on foreign trips is unnecessary and, frankly, quite foolish.
