Is it neccesary to hire an attorney to apply GC through marriage?

Thank you for reading my thread.
The question may sound simply silly but I have always had this wonder: should I hire an attorney or should I do it on my own?

If your case is straightforward it's easy to file by yourself.
In case of issues (e.g. DUI, shoplifting, ...) attorney may be a big plus.

Do it yourself if you know what you are doing.

If you have any complications or baggage such as previous marriages, arrests, previous petitions, etc, then it would be wise to bring a lawyer along.

If you decide to do it yourself, it would be a good idea to atleast consult with a lawyer or folks that know whats up. Minor mistakes might result is prolonged delays. I'm talking years.
