Is it lawful to work as independent contarctor on H4 visa

I am on H4, and a company is telling me that I can work as independent contractor (by filling form 1099) for them, even though I am on H4. Is that correct? Am i authorized to work with 1099? Any advise/insight is appreciated. Thanks.

I think special licence holders are given temporary contractor positions.
You should contact some lawyer for your case.

No. You are not suppose to work on H4. The only way is to get H1 or EAD.

NO NEVER. any "work" performed by h4 holders, with or without salary whether w2 or 1099 is illegal.
