Is it illegal to impersonate an illegal immigrant?

Yesterday I was buying gas at a gas station and I
had a conversation with the cerk there who came
from India. During the conversation we talked
about immigration issues. He asked for my status,
I jokingly said I was staying here illegally.

In retroepect, I felt fears. What if he had taken
my words and had called the immigration authrotirties
and the authorities right away sent some officers to
have me picked up and found I was a PR?

Actually the clerk was not that smart either. He
told me he was a F-1 MBA student who is
to graduate this June and had not landed a job
offer yet and was worried. I doubt he had the
permit to work at a gas station as a F1 student.
If I were an undercover immigration agent, he
would be in trouble too. I regret that I did
not tease him by telling him that I was such
an immigration law enforcement agents and
scared him, but that would means I would
commit a crime of impersonanating a law
enforcement personnnel.

I think you can answer that question yourself!!

Also, I don't think one immigrant who has gone or experienced the whole immigration process, has the right to "tease" somebody else regarding this matter.

It is ok to impersonate an illegal alien if:

1. You are lying to a civilian (like at the gas station for whatever reason).
2. Try to pick up women/men at a bar (don't know what kind; maybe an immigrant hangout?).

There may be unintended consequences. See the movie "Born in East LA" for more details.

It is illegal to do so if you are:

1. Questioned by a law enforcement agent (federal, local, state)
2. Under oath in court
3. Corresponding with the government

p.s. sorry, couldn't resist; not much humor in this forum.

You not only sound like an imbecile, but I can bet that you look exactly like one, too. No wonder he told you what he had to.
With millions in this country working illegally do you think the govt. cares ?

Some credit card application form has a question
"are you a US citizen?" and I don't think any law
requires bank to ask applicant such a queastion.
But What if a noncitizen, in roder to
get a credit card, say Yes?

Now after 9-11, by law, some brokerage or mutual fund
need to ask such a question on new account form.
Because law require such question, so pretending to be
a citizen for such purpose may be a crime.

By the way, 18 USC 911 say impersonating a USA citizen
is a crime punishable by up to 3 years in prison, but
does not say the impersonatnation has to be done
beforwe government (I' ll probably never forget
the section number of this statute because it is 911)

This discussion is beyond moronic and into a whole new realm of stupidity. Why would you want to do something for sadistic pleasure.
P.S Beware of JoeF's advice: He will say anything to have you arrested. Reality and he parted ways a long time ago.
