Is it a must to apply for SIN ?

Hi folks; I was just curious, for those of us landing and returning back to USA, is it a must to apply for the SIN card? Immigration officers say you should apply for it in 2 weeks. OR can I apply for it without any problems when I return? thanks.

Not necessaery if you do not plan to live in canada but it is a good idea to do so for bank acct etc if you have or to file zero taxes etc.

I had a heck of a problem because I did not have SIN number for my wife.

I thought like you and did not get my wif a SIN number.
What happened after that was, I could not get tax refund amount of CD$2400 because my wife did not have a SIN number.

So just to protect you from any future unforeseen problems, get a SIN number. You may need it in future.

You dont need it now, but who knows when you might need it.
