Is initiating an inquiry always helpful???

I had called my lawyer’s office to find out if initiating an inquiry about my case would be helpful (My case is very close to cross 540 days). I was told that, initiating an inquiry sometimes affects the approval adversely. What happens is, when we send a written inquiry, the file gets pulled out from its current state and treated differently. If the file was not worked at the time of the inquiry then it might be helpful for the approval but if the case was close to getting approved then it might delay the approval. So, I would say it’s not a 50/50 chance; it is a +50 / -50 chance that inquiry will be helpful.

Not even 540 days?

Relax man. There are people waiting for more than 2 years.

You can call up the cutomer service and ask them what is going on. Your case is well within boundaries. Stop being an eager beaver. How would you feel if a customer of yours comes to you before the date promised demanding his stuff when people who came before him are waiting? ...especially when you have a govt job!

Chill!

Don't try to be over smart!!

I never said that, I have already sent or going send an inquiry before 540 days. I know what to expect from INS and when. I may not even enquire about my case. FYI, You and me can not control when our cases will be approved. Read and understand the context of my post and think 10 times before replying!! Stop being a PIA!!

What is the date promised? According to me - "the customer" - it is the number of days mentioned on my original receipt notice... right? That number is 450 - 480 days... Since then I have had no written communication from USCIS that says that there has been a delay in processing and informing me that they expect it to take longer than the number of days that they had originally thought it would take to approve the case... I know, I know... it is USCIS that we are dealing with ... but just to make my point that we are not "customers" here....

Please don't feel sorry for me, I am very well by the grace of GOD. Just behave yourself, don't make yourself a fool. Just because you have a GC that does not mean that you insult people.

what's going on?

I don't think patienceGC's comment is any insult. He is telling the truth. if you start inquiry this early, you will for sure get a "nice" response from CIS.

As a matter of fact, they won't even allow you to inquire, CIS is currently processing Feb 2002 case,

are you new here?

Whats wrong with you people, when did I say that I have sent a written inquiry or I am getting ready to send one. All I am saying is that, I had called my lawyer's office to find out if an inquiry will help and in that process I found the implications of an inquiry on the case based on where the case is currently. I am not saying that I am going to start an inquiry. Please guys read the posting properly before making any comments. If you say something which I never intended to do that is insulting to me.

Some of the comments on this thread are certainly rude if not insulting !

To answer WIN's question, i think there are different results for different cases. I think it spoils your case as i have a feeling i did not get my 2nd FP cause my company started a inquiry via the congressman (Yes they do reply back with "some" status). All my friends who filed around me have received 2nd FP while i have not.

Good luck

The comments might have been rude, but what the poster should realize is that questions like this irk a lot of people whose situations are admitably worse then theirs.

Even though the 540 day timeframe on the notice is somewhat binding, anyone even remotely connected to this process knows what the matter of fact state is at this time.

The poster (who, if I am not mistaken, asks people to update RUPNET upon approval, and should therefore, be experienced somewhat) has probably himself seen lots of cases on these boards (presumably, all valid and true) where people have waited for 3 years or close.

So, are you entitled to an inquiry based on the receipt notice timeframe? Yes, although written only, since 1-800 operators will tell you that you are not within processing dates. Will the inquiry accomplish anything positive in relation to your case? No.

I wouldn't do it.
