Is H1b stamping necessary for a Canadian PR going abroad from Canada

Hi,
I am a canadian PR and I work in US on a H1b visa. My present H1b visa is not stamped yet, since I got it changed from H4 to H1 after I moved to US (I got my canadian PR after that). I am told that there are lot of problems in getting H1b visa stamped from H4 visa. If I decided to fly from Canada instead of flying from US and returning to Canada (from where I could drive back), would there be a need of H1b stamping ? I appreciate any suggestions.

You can travel from toronto. BUt, why can\'t you send for H1 stamping to St.Louis.
My wife got her H1 stamped at St.Louis, she too changed from H4 to H1.

In St. Louis they only stamp H1b Visa, if u already have a H1B visa in your passport and it has not been expired for more than 1 year.
If you wanna change from h4b to h1, you need to go out of the country and get your passport stamped. I am not sure how they stamped a h1 visa for your wife at st.louis is she did not have a prior h1b visa in her passport.
