Is going for H1B (first time) stamping with approved I-140 is risky?

My I 1-40 is approved and I-485 is pending. I had to travel to India, and so wanted to go for the H1 stamping. I applied for AP but it is still pending


I came on J1, and now have an approved H1B, but NO stamp on the passport.

This will be my first visit to US consulate in Chennai, India, since I got my J1 while I was in Japan.

Does any body have experience of getting the H1 approval with the above kind of situation?

Don't have any personal experience in this situation but nothing makes your case any special or difficult.

It is ok for an H1-B visa holder to show intention of becoming a permanent resident of the USA. For some other visa types (like F-1, B-1 etc.), it is not right but for H-1B, not a problem. So, they should have no problem with the fact that your I-485 is pending.
